"We ought to take on some particular extra penance or prayer every Friday. It's a great day to schedule a holy hour, if that's possible. It's a great day to eat a simpler meal. It's a great day to dress more simply for work or for school. And if we do so, gain, it allows us to experience the meaning of our lives. We can really drink deeply of the most beautiful gift that we have received, God's sacrificial death for us out of love for us and because of our sins. In short, it's an invitation to live more deeply as we experience more deeply the Lord's love and the beautiful meaning and truth of our lives. Friday points us to what is to come for us in the future." page 50
This one got me. I do nothing on any sort of regularity to honor Christ's crucifixion. Not only that, but I basically have party clothes that I wear every Friday because TGIF. Another thing that has been bothering me is that I wear party clothes on Friday because I don't have to work for a couple days and work really takes on a negative focus. So, I am trying out vegetarian foods on Friday, somber clothing, and keep my eye on the cross. This was my second Friday of the practice and so far I am really enjoying sanctifying my week in this way.
Some things to ponder:
How are you honoring Christ's sacrifice with any sort of regularity?
How are you honoring God's provisions in regards to your attitude towards work?
What do you think?
