"And a fourth and last meaning: to recollect oneself is to awaken. With people who are not recollected there is always something tense, some preoccupation; and as soon as this preoccupation and tension lessens, they become all of a sudden empty and listless. When there is no object which draws them, no motive which pushes or stimulus which agitates them, then their activity flags and a strange desolation takes its place. Outward restlessness often goes together with inner listlessness. Indeed, the latter determines the peculiar character of the former. A recollected person, however, who is able to concentrate, to become still, and to withdraw into himself, is inwardly awake. The states of quietness and alertness belong together, supporting and determining each other." page 14
To be inwardly awake is to recollect oneself.
What a glorious thought! When we hold with open hands our awareness of God, when we are present in this reality, we become awakened to who we truly are.
What a blessing and what a gift!
